Johns’ Roebling Bridge painting is now the cover of Cincinnati’s Budget in Brief Documents FY2020.

IMG_8300I’m super stoked to share that I’ve recently had this painting featured on the City of Cincinnati legislation documents. For fiscal year 2020, Cincinnati has selected my painting titled, Golden Evening Suspension, which will be used as the cover for the Budget in Brief, a document used by city council to assist in determining legislation spending, and will also be featured on the city’s official website.

It’s just awesome to see your passion come to life not only on canvas but other content that can really inspire the public. This particular painting selected by the City of Cincinnati showcases the strong foundation and vivid structure of this iconic landmark. At night, this bridge has the most beautiful gold color reflecting into the Ohio River. This particular painting is special to Johns, so special in fact, that he had canvas prints made of this piece to give as gifts to the groomsmen in his wedding.

What makes this piece extra special is that the gift of art keeps on giving, I actually sold it to longtime friend and colleague where it proudly is on display in his home, and now will live on in print and digital forms for the City of Cincinnati.

HERO_REFERENCEWho’s up for a challenge? We are…Ha! That’s for sure as we gear up to paint this amazing view of Cincinnati that I personally grew up with. Here’s the reference visual for the next commission painting, titled, View from Devou Park | Cincinnati. And yep, it’ll be in black and white.

Black and white paintings, are they easier? Well you don’t have to mix all the different colors, however the hard part is getting the shades of grey to separate.

The Breathtaking Niagara Falls

Excited to share the final capture of this painting of one of the most amazing wonders of the world, Niagara Falls. After being invited to speak at recent conference by CEF (Creative Education Foundation and  CPSI (Creative Problem Solving Institute) I was asked if I had a painting I could donate to the event. Since our portfolio is mainly Cincinnati inspired artwork and current inventory is of that it was apparent that this event in Buffalo New York would need a new piece of art. With a passion to paint local landmarks as inspiration what would be better than the beautiful Niagara Falls. That’s the inspiration behind this vibrant painting.

Proud to say the piece sold for a significant amount working as a great fundraiser for this event.

This painting is now complete of the Roebling Bridge. Absolutely love painting this amazing and iconic structure. This particular rendition in black and white is quite captivating. The other thing to notice  is that the reference for this one was from a day time photo versus night time was a bright inspiration on the bridge to us.

This piece is hooked, wired and ready for client delivery and can’t wait till they see it in person for the first time.

Strength, Honor and Stability, The Elephant

Elephant_final_smlExcited to share the final capture of this triptych of an elephant. The neat thing about this lies in the true symbol of an elephant. For me, this creature has always been an icon for strength, honor and stability. So, I decided to name each of the canvases in that order. The first will be strength, the second honor and third stability. When put together roughly 3″ apart they will make the elephant.

Unexpected Asterisk | CPSI

UnexpectedAsteriskSay hello to my latest painting. This piece was inspired by the upcoming creativity conference by the Creative Education Foundation, CPSI. Known as the Creative Problem Solving Institute. The conference takes place this June and prides itself on creative solutions for complex business issues, helping professionals like you move ideas into action. One of the sponsors of this conference is Seed Strategy, Inc. where I work as SVP, Creative. This connection along with my passion as a fine artist lead to this outstanding opportunity to design, craft a painting and ultimately be facilitating a live community art project during the event!

During the process I had great time bringing this simple symbol we use and see all the time to life. The asterisk is a symbol that basically says something was omitted from the text. I wanted to celebrate that symbol and bring a whole new energy to it.

Strength, Honor and Stability, The Elephant | Triptych on 3 Canvases

Excited to share the first commissioned painting of the year. This will be a triptych-style painting of an elephant standing tall and proud. It will be all in neutral tones, thinking of adding some crackle like texture and silver metallic paints to give it some pop. Stay tuned so you can see this elegant beast come to life.

Now, I’ll get into how we landed on this subject but first wanted to mention this contraption that I built to allow work on the 3 canvases at a time. It was simply a nice piece of plywood then anchored the canvases in place with some cut blocks and it was complete. Ready to start the painting.

Here’s a little more background behind the painting. This piece started with the need to showcase an original painting in the entry this beautiful home. After visiting the home and seeing and really studying the space, it was apparent that a triptych would be perfect. But not just the same size canvas either. While looking the same size canvas it didn’t have the pop os something unexpected. It was then time to leverage some design chops with an effort to further optimize the space. We then began an iterative process first focused on canvas design, once we aligned to that both subjects, composition and canvas design. The use of the canvas in the middle being tall took your eye up to the ceiling and down to the floor. Really optimizing the wall space for the entry. Once the panting is finished and hanging in its new home I’ll be sure to share.

The Suspension Bridge, Roebling | Cincinnati Ohio

Super excited to announce that this acrylic on canvas panting of the Roebling Bridge has now been sold.

After finishing this piece nearly five years ago, it’s  appeared in a few gallery shows then due to it’s large size it spent most of the time in the studio as we enjoyed it while we worked on other paintings. Until about two months ago when Brad Wainscott owner of a new restaurant in Covington, Kentucky, Libby’s Southern Comfort reached out and asked if I had any artwork to display in his new space. After this painting of the Roebling Bridge proudly hung on the walls for just a round a month a woman came in for lunch and enjoyed some of the amazing goetta hushpuppies and also wanted this painting. 

It’s always fun to see the final resting place of your artwork. Upon delivery of this painting I was able to help the owner up to their magnificent home overlooking the beautiful Cincinnati Skyline. It was like a dream come true to sit there and take in our beautiful city from the comfort of her home. This piece is rather large at 48″ x 90″ and took some time to complete and a fun history to it. Now notice all the texture in the background? There’s a story to that. This painting actually lived three lives. The first one it was the actual Frischs Big Boy holding his hand up, but instead of a burger he was holding the city of Cincinnati. Then decided to paint over that and we did the ivory towers of Procter and Gamble. It stayed like that for a while then we decided to paint the suspension bridge.
