The Little Hummingbird

This little guy was enjoying our new feeder. He’s definitely the biggest one yet, but still so small. It’s just awesome to watch how these little guys fly in every direction at lightning speed. Time to get the camera out again this evening and just post up. Hope you enjoy the shot! JJ Beautiful Humming Bird

This photo may turn into a painting one day. I haven’t done too many bird paintings over the years, but here’s one I worked on a year or so ago of a Red-Tailed Hawk, which is now on display at Seed Strategy. Stay tuned, a hummingbird painting may be in your near future.

Beautiful Blonde in Union, Kentucky

This photo was captured during the sunset in Union, Kentucky. I was out on a scooter ride and saw this beautiful horse just standing in the field glowing in the sunlight. I’ve already completed and sold one painting inspired by the reference photo which you can check out here. Looking forward to starting a new painting in the next few weeks, stay tuned.

Race at Keeneland

I really enjoy capturing photos of horses, whether their just chilling on a farm or the worlds top thoroughbreds racing around a course. This photo depicts a moment in time at Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky. My passion for capturing just that right moment in time for these beautiful animals truly comes to life once these photos inspire my next series of equestrian-based paintings.Race at Keeneland

Jeff Johns painting of the Roebling Bridge for STEERSMEN album art

A nice shout out by The Steersmen, a Chicago based band who used one of my paintings for their album art. Check out their website to see more! JJ

http://www.thesteersmen.com/album-art

Here’s a transcript from The Steersmen Site.

This post is about the neo-impressionist painter Jeff Johns, who was kind enough to let us use his acrylic painting of the Roebling suspension bridge for the album art of our album. You can find much of his work here.

“An artist is paid not for his labor but for his vision.”
— James Whistler

This past winter I spent a lot of time doing things related to our album:

• Checking on final mixes
• Finding a mastering engineer
• Pulling out my hair because we couldn’t find art that matched our music

Suddenly, by the grace/pure-randomness of the internet, the latter problem was solved.

I came across an artist named Jeff Johns on twitter. After following him I was immediately intrigued by the color-schemes that he used on his acrylic paintings. A lot of vibrant colors against a black background, which is exactly the type of painting we tried (I emphasize the word “tried”) to simulate on our ep cover here:

Many of his paintings matched up with my fondness for urban areas, light reflections, and bridges. It was  perfect. I shot him a message asking to use one of his paintings and he couldn’t have been a nicer artist to work with.

Here’s the final design.
