Whether you listen to analyst calls, read the front page of The Journal or attend an annual company meeting, one thing is clear: now more than ever, innovation is top of mind for companies, investors and consumers alike. And with long-term planning likely underway, our guess is there’s quite a bit of innovation talk in your world as well.
So it seems timely that this edition of The Accelerator focuses on innovation.
Spend a few minutes with The Accelerator: Innovation Edition and you will learn:
- Six ways in which—contrary to popular belief—innovation is less like a sprint and more like a marathon.

A nice shout out by The Steersmen, a Chicago based band who used one of my paintings for their album art. Check out their website to see more! JJ

Here’s a transcript from The Steersmen Site.
This post is about the neo-impressionist painter Jeff Johns, who was kind enough to let us use his acrylic painting of the Roebling suspension bridge for the album art of our album. You can find much of his work here.
“An artist is paid not for his labor but for his vision.”
— James Whistler
This past winter I spent a lot of time doing things related to our album:
• Checking on final mixes
• Finding a mastering engineer
• Pulling out my hair because we couldn’t find art that matched our music
Suddenly, by the grace/pure-randomness of the internet, the latter problem was solved.
I came across an artist named Jeff Johns on twitter. After following him I was immediately intrigued by the color-schemes that he used on his acrylic paintings. A lot of vibrant colors against a black background, which is exactly the type of painting we tried (I emphasize the word “tried”) to simulate on our ep cover here:
Many of his paintings matched up with my fondness for urban areas, light reflections, and bridges. It was perfect. I shot him a message asking to use one of his paintings and he couldn’t have been a nicer artist to work with.
Here’s the final design.

Johns painting to be used as Chicago band’s album art.
I was so thrilled when The Steersmen, a Chicago-based band reached out to me through Twitter to purchase the rights to use the artwork of a bridge painting as their cover for their album. Of course I said yes, and we worked up a deal.
“Twitter is awesome! I’ve been on there just a week and already have a deal with a band from Chicago to use one of my paintings as their album art. Pretty cool!“ This was posted to Facebook by Jeff Johns back on January 11th 2013.
Here’s the latest design by The Steersmen that will be launching this March. Stay tuned
