Jeff Johns painting of the Roebling Bridge for STEERSMEN album art

A nice shout out by The Steersmen, a Chicago based band who used one of my paintings for their album art. Check out their website to see more! JJ

Here’s a transcript from The Steersmen Site.

This post is about the neo-impressionist painter Jeff Johns, who was kind enough to let us use his acrylic painting of the Roebling suspension bridge for the album art of our album. You can find much of his work here.

“An artist is paid not for his labor but for his vision.”
— James Whistler

This past winter I spent a lot of time doing things related to our album:

• Checking on final mixes
• Finding a mastering engineer
• Pulling out my hair because we couldn’t find art that matched our music

Suddenly, by the grace/pure-randomness of the internet, the latter problem was solved.

I came across an artist named Jeff Johns on twitter. After following him I was immediately intrigued by the color-schemes that he used on his acrylic paintings. A lot of vibrant colors against a black background, which is exactly the type of painting we tried (I emphasize the word “tried”) to simulate on our ep cover here:

Many of his paintings matched up with my fondness for urban areas, light reflections, and bridges. It was  perfect. I shot him a message asking to use one of his paintings and he couldn’t have been a nicer artist to work with.

Here’s the final design.

A Collection of Cincinnati Skyline Paintings | 2013 and ealier

Just wanted to share a collection of Cincinnati skyline paintings that I’ve created, both alone and as a team. Jeff Johns and Colin Daugherty unite on canvas and are known as JJCD Collaborations™. This collection of paintings have been showcased in several galleries as well as displayed in the only Four Diamond Steakhouse in Cincinnati, The Celestial.

Currently, this posting doesn’t include the entire collection, but just wanted to get a collection to the top of my blog site so people could browse these paintings of the Cincinnati skyline. This is our favorite subject to paint, and there’s been a lot of interest from folks so we want to make the art even easier to find.

JefferyJ.com | 2013 a year in review

My stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for http://www.jefferyj.com

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 7,900 times in 2013. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 7 trips to carry that many people.

Beautiful Horse in Union, Kentucky | 24″ x 20 Acrylic on Canvas

beautifulhorseinunionky

Ever since moving to the country and being surrounded by the beauty of these horses everyday, Jeff Johns knew it was time to start painting them. Johns’ first painting in this equestrian inspired series titled, Beautiful Horse in Union, Kentucky, captures a special horse right off Big Bone Road in Union, Kentucky. While the entire series will be of nature and likely quite a few  horses from Union, Kentucky, he’ll have to figure out how to name the future paintings.

The painting, Beautiful Horse in Union, Kentucky is a 20” x 24” acrylic on canvas, gallery wrapped and ready to hang. Should be finished early August 2013. If you have any interest in this painting, or any others, call Jeff Johns today, 859.630.9657

This painting has been sold for $300.
